Who We Are
Teen Mothers and reproductive Health Program (TMRHP) is not for profit making organization registered in Uganda whose Vision and aspiration for an Africa free from child marriages and early pregnancies with emphasis on social injustice against women and girls including certain tradition and cultural practices that force girls and women into early Union and also promotion of reproductive health services and rights. The initiation of this program was began by a group of Female health workers in 2018 in Luweero District in Uganda, it was began as community based organization then called “Campaign against Teenage pregnancies”, with aim of women getting involved in solution finding to the problem. This was as a result of the high influx of expectant young girls of school going age turning up at health facilities for antenatal care and high prevalence of childbirth deaths in girls aged 15-19 mostly due to pre-mature pregnancies even some of the adolescent mothers who escaped or survived maternal deaths could end up with severe post-child birth complications. The program has led to series of research and studies charactering the phenomenon including rooted gender inequality, beliefs that girls and women are inferior to boys and men, Poverty which makes acquisition of basic needs difficult in many families, traditional cultures and practices that force girls and women into early union .It was worsened by lack of reproductive health services and rights. Up on this back ground, a group of those like-minded female health workers decided to turn this club into national registered organization acquiring a new name “ Teen Mothers and Reproductive Health Program” involving their male colleagues to be part of solution finding and enlarge its scope of operations beyond. Prioritizing sexual and reproductive health education, rights and services including sex education, massages to encourage abstinence, empowering girls and women to exercise their own sexual rights. Promote use of family planning for those who are sexually active in the effort to prevent unintended and early pregnancies, HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases, involving male teenagers in the awareness and sensitization programs. Promoting maternal health programmes to serve unique needs of adolescent girls and Women, reducing child marriages and promotion of maternal health programmes and other objectives was seen as game changer to improve the health of millions of girls, women and their children. Also brought the partnership with other colleagues, research institution, NGOS and government entities
